Righton Blackburns Leeds Service Centre is now stocking 4mm HR DD11 grade hot-rolled mild steel perforated sheet manufactured to prison specifications. This versatile material combines a heavy-gauge plate (4mm) with DD11-grade ductility and a precision security perforation pattern, balancing strong impact resistance, anti-ligature safety, and high formability.
This is a low-carbon, high-ductility steel specifically formulated for cold forming and bending (as defined in the EN 10111 standard). It also has outstanding weldability without the need for pre-heating. All this in a material which provides exceptional resistance to blunt force or leverage attacks, providing structural security at a fraction of the cost of hardened alloy plates.
The requirements of the prison specification for this material are mostly focused on the perforations. The perforations need to be small enough to ensure that neither contraband or a ligature can be passed through them, and that the edges are deburred and smoothed, without any punch flash or sharp edges. The 4mm thickness also ensures that the panel doesn’t bow or collapse under improvised attack.
