HiMast™ Passive Posts

Engineered to shear or detach upon vehicle impact, this design helps reduce harm to occupants. Its ability to function without an extra safety barrier also delivers substantial cost savings.

The HiMast™ aluminium sign support posts are designed for use either individually or combined to provide passive support for road equipment which is primarily signage.

HiMast™ Passive Sign Support

The HiMast™ passive post is recognised across the industry due to its frangible design and non-energy absorbing qualities. HiMast™ provides an alternative to the traditional structural steel poles that are protected by safety barriers. HiMast™ is designed to break away following a vehicle impact to minimise the harm to the vehicles occupants.

The posts are passive in accordance with BS.EN.12899-1:2007 and BS.EN.12767:2007 after crash test validation

Benefits

  • Multi-Directional Protection: They perform consistently regardless of the angle of collision, making them ideal for complex junctions and roundabouts.
  • Non-Energy Absorbing: Classified as 100NE:2, meaning they don’t transfer force to the vehicle, reducing injury risk.
  • No Safety Barrier Required: Unlike traditional steel poles, HiMast™doesn’t need crash protection, saving on materials and installation.
  • Quick Replacement: Damaged posts can be unbolted and swapped without disturbing the foundation, reducing downtime and labour costs.
  • Eco-Friendly Lifecycle: Damaged sections can be recycled, and the entire post is designed with sustainability in mind
  • Wide Range of Sizes: From compact urban posts to large motorway supports, HiMast™ fits virtually any road type.
  • Baseplate System: Allows for above-ground mounting, ideal for retrofit projects or constrained sites.

HiMast™ Fixing & Installation

HiMast™ posts are mounted using anchorage units and baseplates designed for quick installation and easy replacement:

  • Baseplate & Bolt System: In the event of a collision, the damaged post can be unbolted from the baseplate and replaced without disturbing the foundation.

  • Anchorage Units: Available in different sizes (H500, H1000, H2000, H3000, H4000) to suit various post profiles and load requirements.

  • Sign Mounting Hardware: Compatible with standard sign brackets, clamps, and banding systems for secure attachment.

  • Recyclability: Damaged sections can be 100% recycled, reducing environmental impact.

Himast Clips

In a passive safety system like HiMast™, every component (including the clips) must be compatible with the mast's breakaway performance and comply with BS EN 12767 and BS EN 12899 standards. Using the correct clips ensures:

  • The sign remains secure in normal conditions

  • The post performs as designed in an impact

  • Maintenance and replacement are straightforward

Purpose of HiMast™Clips

  • Secure Sign Mounting - They hold traffic signs firmly in place on the HiMast™ post profile.

  • Profile-Specific Fit - Designed to match the post's aluminium section so the sign sits flush and stable.

  • Durability - Made from corrosion-resistant materials to withstand outdoor conditions.

  • Ease of Installation - Can be fitted quickly on site, often without specialist tools.

How They Work in the System

  • Used with Brackets/Banding - Clips may work alongside other fixings like stainless steel banding or bespoke brackets, depending on sign size and wind loading.

  • Non-Intrusive - Designed to grip without damaging the post's structural integrity.

  • Replaceable - If a post is damaged in a collision, the clips can be removed and reused where possible.
