When the team at Righton Blackburns’ Glasgow Service Centre heard that the nearby Budhill and Springboig Allotments were in dire need of wood, they were delighted to help, combining some community spirit with a little recycling.
Quality Manager at Glasgow, Hugh, found out about the need through a friend and member of the allotment community, who explained how difficult they were finding it to source wood, primarily for raised beds and fencing. The allotment is well known in the area, providing a welcome green space for the community. They also get local schools involved and show the children the joys of gardening and the benefits of growing their own vegetables and flowers.
A wagon was duly loaded with pallets by Chris, the Warehouse Manager, and sent off to the allotments along with Warehouseman Andy and Apprentice Warehouse Operative Kai to help unload. Budhill and Springboig Allotments now have all the wood they’ll need for the coming season.
Our commitments to local communities and environmental issues are key elements of Righton Blackburns policies, but the fact of the matter is that our Glasgow team merely saw a good cause on their doorstep that was in need and were in a position to help.
“A great project local to us and one we are proud to support. The promise of a bag of homegrown chilis did not influence us unduly I have to stress…” said Martin McGhee, Service Centre Manager.
