The chemical, processing and oil & gas industries are probably the most demanding industries to use stainless steels, creating a large market for stainless tanks, pipes, pumps and valves. Special grades of stainless steel have been developed to offer greater corrosion resistance at a broad range of different temperatures and are used in desalination and sewage plants, food manufacturing processes, brewery tanks and wine making, housings and storage.
Aluminium Bronze Alloys
With an aluminium content of up to about 8 percent can be cold-rolled into sheet or drawn into tubes for use in chemical plants for pressure vessels and heat exchangers. In desalination plants aluminium bronzes are used for pumps, valves, water boxes, impellers, condenser tube plates and housings. They are employed for elevated temperatures up to approximately 325°C in high pressure condenser systems.

Copper Nickel Alloys
Copper nickel alloys are widely employed in desalination plants. Although heat exchanger tubing is the most important individual application, other important uses include tubeplate, water boxes, piping and evaporator shells. Copper nickels feature in a wider range of components than any other material in MSF evaporators. Used in the fabrication of low-temperature equipment for the liquefaction and storage of cryogenic fluids. Ductility at low temperatures combined with good thermal conductivity is advantageous for heat exchangers and other components in cryogenic plants, as well as in low-temperature processing and storage equipment.
Duplex & Super Duplex
Duplex alloys were originally created to combat corrosion problems caused by chloride bearing cooling waters and other aggressive chemical process fluids. Super duplex provides outstanding resistance to acids, acid chlorides, caustic solutions and other environments in the chemical/petrochemical, pulp and paper industries. Applications include: heat exchangers and pipes in desalination plants, pipes in process industries handling solutions containing chlorides, cargo tanks, vessels, piping and welding consumables for chemical tankers.
Carbon & Chrome Moly Steel
Carbon steel is the most commonly used material in process plants and in most general refinery applications. It is routinely employed for most organic chemicals and neutral or basic aqueous solutions at moderate temperatures. Carbon steel pipes are widely used in industrial processes involving high heat, extreme cold, or even for transporting gases such as steam. Heating systems use thin-wall, straight bead, precision carbon steel pipes with a lower level of carbon content.

Nickel & nickel alloys are used extensively in the process plant industry due to their excellent properties such as corrosion, heat and pressure resistance. They are resistant to both aqueous and gaseous corrosion plus they can be used in environments from cryogenic to very high temperatures. Nickel alloys are widely used in the food industry as its corrosion resistance is high, therefore making it suitable for most food production and storage processes.
