Marine Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is a hugely versatile material with many unique properties, making it an exceptional material for many marine applications. It has superior corrosion resistance as well as high impact and temperature strength. Stainless steel has good weldability and formability and is scaling resistant. Easy to clean and with good visual appeal, it is the ideal material for handrails, heat exchangers, deck fittings, propellers, offshore rigs, tank heating tubes, hydraulic systems and tanks.

The environmental conditions, like salt water and constant sun, around marine projects may be quite harsh. Selection of alloy is critical for marine projects. The most popular grades for these applications are 316/L and Duplex. With higher corrosion resistance and higher yield strengths, these alloys are rigged enough to withstand far more punishment than the average carbon alloy.

Shaped Architectural Tubing

At Righton Blackburns we understand how important it is to create visually appealing but durable metal architecture that can withstand an uncompromising marine environment.

From stunning staircases on super-yachts to grab rails on speedboats, our shaped stainless steel tubes offer the marine industry aesthetic, structural and ergonomic advantages over standard round tubing.

We offer tubing in six different shapes; each design has different properties, with profiles such as oval tubing offering significant advantages over standard round tubing.

Flat Sided Oval Tube

Clean, rounded lines and flat sides provide strength for architectural purposes. This tube is easy to fix to other elements.

Oval Tube

An ergonomic, tactile shape that is perfect for handrails and balustrades. This low-maintenance design is commonly used for architectural and marine purposes.

Radius Square Tube

Blended radius corners and a slight convex side provide greater strength than standard box section tubing. Due to its appealing softened corners and the range of available sizes, it is ideal for balustrade and handrail panels.

Twisted Square Tube

Aesthetically striking alternative to standard round or square tube profiles. Offers impressive strength integrity while being lighter and more cost-effective than conventional solid twisted bars.

D Shape Tube

With a smooth top, flat section and incredible lateral strength, this clever design prevents water ingress underneath, plus it is very easy to install. Ideal for handrail on marine craft and in public buildings.

Twisted Oval Tube

Innovative spiral forming applied to a classic oval tube design. This beautiful twisted tubing creates a mesmeric effect that is ideal for decorative metal architecture on buildings and boats.

We also supply a range of complementary joiners, balustrades and handrails.

Duplex and Superduplex

Duplex and Superduplex UNS S31803 (F51), UNS S32750 (F53) & UNS S32760 (F55) give significant life cycle cost advantages when used in severe and corrosive conditions. Duplex and Superduplex are available in bar, sheet, plate, tube, pipe & fittings.

Both materials have exceptional resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and to stress corrosion cracking and have high strength combined with weldability. Duplex and Superduplex can be used for many applications including propeller shafts, seawater oil and gas piping systems on offshore platforms, seawater piping systems in desalination plants, subsea manifolds and flowlines, subsea pipeline systems, topside process systems, subsea umbilicals and submerged components.

17-4 is a martensitic precipitation hardening stainless steel which has an outstanding combination of high strength, hardness, corrosion resistance, favourable mechanical properties and fabrication characteristics. This enables it to be used in marine applications. The fact that it is resistant to corrosion enables it to survive exposure to salty sea water. Most of the process piping, seawater piping, and heat exchangers are made of this alloy.

XM-19 has an excellent combination of strength, ductility and toughness for a wide variety of applications. It is corrosion, abrasion and erosion resistant and has low magnetic permeability. XM-19 can be easily machined and formed. Ideal for marine pumps, valves, masts, tie downs, fixtures and fittings

Nickel Alloys

Offering far superior mechanical properties and corrosion resistance than many other corrosion resistant alloys, Nickel Alloys are commonly used in severe environments. They give excellent performance over a wide range of temperatures, operating environments, and media - where strength and corrosion resistance are critical. A range of nickel alloys for offshore applications are also available on request. Grades include: Alloy 400, alloy 500, alloy 625, alloy 718 and C276.
