Copper Alloys, Aluminium BronzeBS B23 DTD197 Bar

A high strength aluminium bronze used in the aerospace, marine and chemical industries.

Bronze signifies a copper based alloy that is typically hard, durable, and strong, and historically tin has been main alloying ingredient. Since it's discovery in the 19th century, aluminium has been slowly supplanting tin. Copper aluminium alloys (known as aluminium bronzes) are now the norm. Boasting far superior strength and an exceptional resistance to wear and corrosion, aluminium bronzes are widely used in aerospace, maritime, and utilities applications.

The BSB23 grade of aluminium bronze is one of the most popular, with aluminium (10%), nickel (5%) and iron (5%), enhances the alloy in almost all regards.

Wrought BS B23 is most often used when other aluminium bronzes (such as CA104) are unsuitable. Mainly used by aerospace engineers for applications where the incredibly high resistance to wear and galling of BSB23 can be crucial, it is also found in maritime and chemical applications thanks to the impressively high strength and inherent resistance to corrosion even in erosion aggressive environments such as sea water. One other property that makes BS B23 stand out is it's high performance in extremely low temperatures, meaning it finds plenty of use in cyrogenic applications.
